Cadillac Ranch
This is Cadillac Ranch on old Route 66 outside Amarillo Texas. The “white” dots in the center of the image at the bottom of the dirt road are 10 Cadillacs, ranging from a 1949 Club Coupe to a 1963 Sedan. They’re all stuck bonnet first into the ground, and over time the ten cars have been ravaged by the elements and covered over with years of ever-changing graffiti.
Originally the cars were put there after an eccentric millionaire invited an artists’ collective to help in the creation of a unique work of art for his ranch. Full story is here.

I have to ask, why is it that middle of nowhere Tejas has full resolution photos (of large fields and empty spaces), yet places like Richmond VA are mostly low resolution, except for the panel with the airport and west end ? Is there more money in field photos from farmers looking to learn about crop/soil/growing conditions ? (and empty expanses … ??)

ironcladlou - Although I was under the impression that I mentioned everyone who posted this, my apologies if I left you out… However, I think you’ve had plenty of mentions so far, don’t you…? ;-D
I wondered about that too, why the Myrtle Beach pier area is just a bunch of pixels, but less interesting areas are full res.
Did you know that the sculpture at Cadillac Ranch got moved once. It used to be right next to the highway, but when plans were made to widen the road, someone paid to have it all relocated far enough away that it shouldn’t ever get in anyone’s way again.
